The Excursion into Nice

My excursion into Nice with other French students

Every Monday the activities reps at Alpha.b run a free tour of Nice for the newly arrived and still slightly discombobulated students. The tour begins at 1.30pm after the reps have made sure that everyone has some water with them- it’s going to be a hot afternoon (28°c) and there will apparently be exercise involved. After just two minutes of walking we arrive in the middle of the high-street, Rue Jean-Médecin where the practical advice and history lesson begins – Nice étoile is the big shopping centre and did you know that Jean-Médcin was an old mayor of Nice ?

 

We follow Rue Jean-Médcin down towards the beach, stopping at Place Massena where we learn that Nice has only been part of France for 150years whereas it Italian beforehand- that explains all the beautiful terracotta and light green buildings ! The large fountain of Appollo in Place Massena also had its own moment of glory when we were told that the statue of Appollo was considered too offensive to the women of Nice when it was installed, so the sculpter had to make a certain masculin part smaller.

From there, we began to wander through parts of Vieux-Nice, through the winding alleys of high appartment blocks and passing through the market of clothes, furniture, books and toys. Arriving at Colline du Château which protudes into the sea, we understood where the exercise part of the tour would be ! However, after ascending a good few hundred beautiful old steps up the ancient hill of the medieval greek castle, we were certainly rewarded with not only a lovely cool breeze and some shade, but with a fully panoramic 360° view of Nice town and beach to the right, Nice port to the left and the stunning moutains behind. Naturally, there was also a violinist rewarding those who reached the top with beautiful music to accompany the view.

To finish off the tour at the bottom of Colline du Château in Vieux-Nice, we were given possibly the most important piece of information yet – where the best ice-cream shop is. In Vieux-Nice, there is an ice-cream shop that sells over 100 flavours of ice-cream ! Now that, if anything from this lovely tour of Nice, is something to remember.

Returning to Nice for work experience

I landed back in Nice on Saturday afternoon and after settling into my appartment, I went for a stroll on the promenade. Nice, yet again, seemed so lively to me- there were saxophonists busking, street artists painting glass, pavement and canvases, and women doing hair-braids. There were lots of people, yet everyone seemed to be camly enjoying their evening wander. I discovered that I would be in Nice during the NiceJazzFestival – that will be fun to listen to on the beach while having a swim, after work !

On Sunday, after having enjoyed a continental breakfast of coffee, bread, jam, croissants and juice in one of the squares (feeling so very French!), I explored the fruit and veg market by the station to stock up on peaches and nectarines, all so much bigger, juicier and cheaper than in England ! I then amused myself with high-street window shopping, making lots of mental notes of stylish clothes and shoes that I may just have to go and buy – all of my language student friends and I have the aim of making our wardrobes worthy of well-travelled language students by the time we return to Exeter in final year.
In the afternoon, I decided to take the 10 minute train to Beaulieu-sur-mer, a very pretty, sandy beach in a cove with a diving board and private sunlounger and parasol hire (the typical picture-postcard French riveriera). I spent the rest of the day sunbathing, swimming, reading and eating a home-made picnic of fresh bread, cheese, salami and fruit, followed by an ice-cream (naturellement !)- I think I could get used to this each afternoon after spending my days of working in the offices of alpha.b.

Internship in France- Welcome to Natasha

My name is Natasha and I study languages at the University of Exeter in England. I study French, Italian and beginners German and I finished the second year of university in June. Next year is my year abroad and I am going to study at the University of Ferrara in Italy for the whole year.

I chose to do work experience at l’Institut Linguistique Alpha.b firstly to improve my French before spending a whole year in Italy where I will be speaking Italian, but also because I did a language course at Alpha.b when I was in college and I enjoyed it so much that I wanted to return. Over the next month I will be part of the Alpha.b office helping with general administration, but I will also have the opportunity to do some translations which I am very interested in! I am also excited to explore Nice and the Riviera to increase my understanding of French culture and food.
After having done my year abroad, I will return to Exeter to complete the final year of university and after that, I would like to do a Masters in translation and interpreting at the University of Bath. I hope to use my languages in the world of work in the future, therefore I need to do a masters.

Outside of my studies, I am the Musical director of one of Exeter’s a cappella choirs so I teach rehearsals and write pieces of music for the choir to sing. I also like to do sport, particularly Zumba and I like to swim. Next year there will be the opportunity to write articles for the university newspaper about my year abroad; I think that that will be a useful exercise for me, firstly to reflect on my experiences abroad, but also so that I can say that I wrote articles for my university on my CV.

Whatever may come my way during this month in Nice and next year, I have every intention of making the most of it all!

Stage de français à Nice – Bienvenue à Natasha

Je m’appelle Natasha et je suis une étudiante des langues à l’université d’Exeter en Angleterre. J’étudie le français, l’italien et l’allemande débutante et j’ai complété la deuxième année en juin. L’année prochaine est mon année à l’étranger et j’étudierai à l’université de Ferrara en Italie pour tout l’année.

J’ai choisi de faire un stage à l’Institut Linguistique Alpha.b premièrement pour améliorer mon français avant de passer un an en Italie où je parlerai italien, mais aussi parce que j’ai fait un cours linguistique à Alpha.b quand j’étais au lycée et il m’a fait telle plaisir que je voulais retourner. Pendant le prochain mois je ferai partie du bureau à Alpha.b en aidant avec le travail gestionnaire générale, mais j’aurai aussi l’opportunité de faire des traductions que m’intéresse beaucoup ! Je suis excitée aussi à plus découvrir la ville de Nice et la Riviera pour augmenter mon compréhension de la culture et de la nourriture française.

Après avoir passé une année à l’étranger, je tournerai à Exeter pour compléter la dernière année universitaire et après, je voudrais faire un Master de traduction et d’interprétation à l’université de Bath. À l’avenir j’espère que je puisse utiliser mes langues dans le monde de travail, donc je dois faire un Master linguistique.
En dehors de mes études, je suis la directrice musicale d’un des chorals a cappella à Exeter donc j’enseigne pendant les répétitions et j’écrits les chansons pour la chorale à chanter. J’aime aussi faire le sport, particulièrement zumba (un type de danse) et j’aime nager. L’année prochaine il y aura la opportunité d’écrire des articles pour le journal à l’université sur mon année l’étranger ; je pense que cela sera un exercice utile pour moi, premièrement pour réfléchir sur mes expériences à l’étranger, mais aussi porque je puisse dire que j’écrivais les articles pour ma université sur mon CV .
Quoique m’arriverait pendant ce mois à Nice et l’année prochaine, j’ai l’intention de l’en profiter au maximum !

Ein Praktikum in Frankreich bei Alpha.b mit Camille & Léna

Hallo, Wir sind Camille & Léna und wir machen ein Praktikum in Frankreich bei Alpha.b.

 

Auf unserem Gymnasium müssen wir ein Praktikum in einem Unternehmen machen und wir haben uns für Alpha.b aus folgenden Gründen entschieden:

 

– das Anwenden von Fremdsprachen,

– Kontakt zu Menschen,

– die lustigen Aktivitäten,

– zu sehen, wie ein Unternehmen und ein Sprachinstitut funktioniert,

– Unterrichts- und Lerntechniken zu lernen.

 

Schon nach einigen Tagen bei Alpha.b hatten wir die Möglichkeit, bei einem Kurs mitzumachen und die angewandten Unterrichtstechniken (zum Erlernen der französischen Sprache) kennenzulernen.

 

Am Morgen waren wir in einem Kurs, welcher sich „30+“ nannte. Es war interessant die Dynamik beim lernen der kleinen Gruppe von Erwachsenen zu sehen.

Am nächsten Tag waren wir in einem Kurs mit irischen Jugendlichen und sie haben uns schnell integriert.

 

Wir haben den Schülern beim spielerischen lernen geholfen (Spiele, Aktivitäten, Wettbewerben).

 

Am Nachmittag hatten wir die Möglichkeit bei einer lustigen Aktivität mitzumachen, zum Beispiel beim Parasailing mit Pacôme, dem Animateur und den Schülern.

 

Bei Alpha.b herrscht eine tolle Atmosphäre.

Der Französischkurs für Erwachsene 30+

Willkommen Pacôme – Der Neue Animateur bei Alpha.b

Nachdem Pacôme seinen Abschluss in Sprachen und Guide in Paris gemacht hat, ist er wieder zu Alpha.b zurückgekehrt. Er bleibt bei Alpha.b bis zum 10. Juli, also für 3 Monate!

Er wir im Büro und während den Pausen verfügbar sein, um die Einschreibungen für die Aktivitäten während der Woche.

 

Außerhalb dieser Zeiten wird er die Schüler die Schüler auf den Ausflügen begleiten und Führungen durch die Städte der Côte d’Azur machen.

 

Um sich Vorzustellen wurde er von den jungen Schülern des Family Kurses bei Alpha.b befragt.

Elias: Wie heißt du?

P: Ich heiße Pacôme.

 

Elias: Wann kommst in die Schule?

P: Ich arbeite von Montag bis Samstag mit einer Pause am Mittwoch und ich bin immer morgens in der Schule!

 

Viktor: Was ist deine Arbeit?

P: Ich bin Guide, das heißt ich bringe die Leute jeden Alters dazu,  neue Orte und Städte zu entdecken. Morgens bereite ich die Aktivitäten und Ausflüge vor.

 

Viktor: Was ist dein Lieblingstier?

P: Katze! Sehr intelligent und pfiffig, ich mag dieses Tier sehr J

Viktor: ich mag lieber kleine Schweinchen!!

Elias: Hast du ein Haustier?

P: Im Moment nicht, aber ich hatte Katzen, einen Hund und ein Kaninchen! Der Hund und das Kaninchen waren dicke Freunde.

 

Elias: Wie hießen sie?   

P: Die Katze Rhapsodie, der Hund Marcel und das Kaninchen Arnica (lange Geschichte!). (Die Anekdote bleibt zwischen uns 😉  )

 

Elias: Was für Früchte isst du?

P: Kiwi, Mango…ich mag exotische Früchte sehr!

5 Gründe um im Frühling Französisch in Nizza zu lernen

Warum im Frühling in Nizza Französisch lernen? Zunächst ist es die perfekte milde Saison um von unserer schöne Region zu profitieren und außerdem könnt ihr von einer Woche gratis Französischunterricht profitieren! Ihr seid noch Schüler oder Jugendlicher: Wenn ihr nicht das Abi macht, aber euch trotzdem auf eine Prüfung vorbereiten möchtet, könnt ihr an unseren Vorbereitungskursen für DALF Niveau A1, A2, B1 oder B2. Diese Vorbereitungskurse dauern Minium 1Monat, während diesem habt ihr morgens Gruppenunterricht mit anderen internationalen Schülern und am Nachmittag habt ihr 6 Unterrichtslektionen mit einem Lehrer speziell für die DALF-Prüfung. Auf unserer Schule sind die Mehrheit der Lehrer qualifizierte Auswärter der DELF-Prüfung und kennen die Prüfung sehr gut. Sie werden euch helfen die Prüfung so gut es geht zu bestehen.     

 

Das kleine +: In den letzten zwei Jahren hatten wir bei der DALF-Prüfung eine Erfolgsrate von 98%.

 

  1. Ihr seid älter als 30 Jahre: Unseren speziellen Kurs 30+ beginnt am 29. Mai. Dieser Kurs wurde letztes Jahr gemacht, um den zahlreichen Anfragen von jungen Erwachsenen nachzukommen, welche sich wünschen Französisch an der Côte d’Azur zu lernen.

 

Der Kurs 30+ richtet sich an erwachsene Schüler, die sich ein Intensivprogramm mit anderen Personen ihres Alters und mit den gleichen Interessen wünschen.

 

Ein Programm ganz ähnlich des Intensivkurses mit der praktischen Anwendung der Sprache.

Die Idee ist es den Wünschen derer gerecht zu werden, die nicht in einer Klasse mit Schülern oder Studenten während des Frühjahrs oder Hochsommers sein möchten.

 

Das kleine +: Die Anzahl der Schüler im Kurs 30+ ist im Durchschnitt 6 (Maximum 8), im Gegensatz zu 10 in den anderen Klassen.

 

  1. Ihr seid älter als 50 Jahre: Entdecken Sie ohne lange zu warten den Club 50, welcher sich an Begeisterte nicht nur der französischen Sprache richtet, sondern auch der französischen Kultur.

 

Wir bieten diesen Kurs 3 Mal im Jahr an und der erste fängt am 8. Mai an. Das Programm dauert 2 Wochen.

 

Der Kurs baut auf  den Themen der Ausflüge und der Freizeitaktivitäten auf.  Sie entwickeln „spielerisch“ Gespräche, Rollenspiele, Meldungen…nach verschiedenen Auflagen, Presse, Video etc…

 

Der Schwerpunkt liegt auf dem Anwenden der Sprache, der Kommunikation und des Verständnis. Das Hauptziel ist es jedem Teilnehmer den Zugang zu einer größeren Selbstständigkeit zu ermöglichen im Bereich des Ausdrucks und des Verständnis der französischen Sprache.

 

Der Monat Mai ist mit dem angenehmen Wetter perfekt um die Côte d’Azur zu entdecken. übrigens ist die Session im Mai schon fast ausgebucht, zögert nicht euch jetzt einzuschreiben!!

 

  1. Sie sind zwischen 16 und 106 Jahren: Es gibt kein Alter, um Französisch zu lernen! Sowie auch nicht um vom Leben an der Côte d’Azur zu profitieren. Und das fällt genau in dem Monat Mai und Juni, dass unsere Sprachschule Alpha.b euch 1 Woche kostenlosen Französischunterricht anbietet!

AlphaBadass – Vos activités à Nice

Mesdames messieurs bonsoir, bienvenue au 20h d’Alpha B, ce soir avec nous comme invités d’honneur, nous accueillons avec enthousiasme nos nouveaux animateurs…

Basil et Zoé !

Ils sont avec nous depuis deux semaines déjà pour animer le centre tout l’été, aujourd’hui ils nous dévoilent leurs personnalités et partagent leurs ambitions.

Zoé : Salut Basil, alors parle-nous un peu de toi.

Basil : Yo Zoé, je suis garçon originaire de la ville de Nice, grand mangeur de pizzas et skateur à mi-temps, j’ai 18 ans je sais parler 3 langues : le français, l’anglais et l’allemand. Et toi Zoé, qui es-tu ?

Zoé : Moi je viens de la région de Lyon, je suis une fille de 21 ans, j’aime la photographie et cuisiner des cookies. Je parle aussi français, anglais et un tout petit peu d’allemand. Et dis-moi pourquoi l’animation ?

Basil : Alors pour tout te dire, après avoir passé un an en école d’arts sur Marseille, j’ai eu besoin de changement, donc j’ai décidé de passer mon BAFA qui est un diplôme en animation. J’ai souvent voyagé moi-même en séjour linguistique, travailler à Alpha B me permet aujourd’hui de voir l’envers du décor. Ca va faire maintenant deux étés de suite que j’occupe ce poste. Et toi Zoé, pourquoi tu es venu travailler à Alpha B ?

Zoé : Alors j’ai fait des études dans le tourisme, précisément pour être guide conférencière et je fais ici mon stage de fin d’année. Alpha B m’a intéressé pour le fait qu’il y ai beaucoup de jeunes, et aussi pour les visites qu’on fait dans toutes les villes de la côte d’azur, ça permet de m’entrainer à faire des guidages sur différents lieux. Alors toi, après ces deux premières semaines, quel est ton ressenti sur Alpha B ?

Basil : Personnellement je prends un plaisir immense à faire du snorkeling avec les étudiants, les emmener visiter des musées, et de manière générale je suis très enthousiaste en ce qui concerne cet été 2017 ! Et toi, quelque chose à rajouter ?

Zoé : Pour ma part, je ne savais pas du tout à quoi m’attendre en arrivant ici mais j’ai été agréablement surprise, nos relations avec les étudiants et l’ambiance générale à Alpha B, tout se passe pour le mieux !

Mesdames, messieurs c’est la fin de notre 20h, merci à tous. En espérant que vous aimerez vos nouveaux animateurs autant qu’ils vous aiment.

Un stage à Alpha.b selon Camille & Léna

Bonjour, nous sommes Camille & Léna et nous sommes stagiaires à Aplha.b pour deux semaines.


Notre lycée nous a demandé de faire un stage en entreprise et nous avons choisi Alpha.b pour diverses raisons :

– pour la pratique des langues étrangères,

– contact humain,

– les activités fun,

– la découverte du fonctionnement d’une entreprise et institut linguistique,

– étudier les techniques d’enseignement et d’apprentissage.

 

Durant quelques jours passés chez Alpha.b, nous avons eu l’occasion d’assister à des cours et d’observer les techniques utilisées pour l’apprentissage d’une langue (ici le français).

Le matin nous étions dans un cours appelé « 30 + », c’était intéressant de voir la dynamique d’un petit groupe d’adultes en apprentissage.

Le jour suivant nous étions dans un cours de jeunes adolescents irlandais plus nombreux et ils nous ont intégrées.

Nous avons pu participer en aidant les élèves dans le cadre d’un enseignement ludique (jeux, activités, compétitions).

 

L’après midi nous avons eu l’occasion de pouvoir faire une activité fun telle que le parachute ascensionnel accompagné de Pacôme l’animateur et des étudiants souhaitant participer aux activités proposées.

Nous avons constaté une très bonne ambiance à Alpha.b.

A course at Alpha.b by Camille & Léna

Hello, we are Camille & Léna and we are trainees at Alpha.b for two weeks.

Our High school asked us to do an internship in business and we chose Alpha.b for several reasons :

– to meet different cultures and foreign language exchange

– the human contact

– The discovery of how a company and a linguistic institute work,

-Study the techniques of teaching and learning

During a few days spent at Alpha.b, we had the opportunity to attends different courses and to observe techniques used to teach a foreign language (here French).

In the morning we were in a course called « 30+ », it was interesting to see the dynamics of a small group of adult students.

The next day we were in a course with young pupils, they were 10 in the class,they were Irish teenagers.They integrated us very quickly.

We were able to participate during the lessons and help the students with the French language. We did a lot of games, activities, competitions, the focus was more on the oral French.

In the afternoon we had the opportunity to participate to fun activities such as the parasailing with Pacôme (the guide) and other students participating in the offered activities.
